Zambia joins the rest of world in commemorating Blood Donor Day

The world will on 14^th June 2012 be commemorating World Blood Donor Day.   In Zambia the event will be marked on 25^th August, 2012.

The Zambia National Blood Transfusion Services (ZNBTS) has constituted an Organising Committee to spearhead the commemoration of the day in Zambia.

Committee chairman Eddie Mupeso has said that the decision to hold the event on 25^th August has been necessitated by the need to ensure thorough preparations that will culminate in a nationwide positive impact.

In the week preceding the Zambia Blood Donor Day, various activities and sensitisation events will be held across the country, particularly in provincial headquarters.

The emphasis will be on enlightening the public on the growing demand for blood transfusions and the need to meet the national objective of safe blood and 100 per cent voluntary blood donation.

The Zambia National Blood Transfusion welcomes you to its blog on Safe blood information. It is our desired hope that through this online collaborative tool, blood donors and cooperating partners both local and international will be able to gain vital information on the Safe Blood Campaign in Zambia. We invite all socially and morally conscious citizens to make a pledge towards donating blood or encouraging someone to donate blood  to the Zambia National Blood Transfusion Service through its Transfusion Centres located at UTH Lusaka, Kabwe general hospital in Central province, Kitwe Central hospital on the Copperbelt province, Solwezi general hospital in North-Western province, Mansa general hospital in Luapula province, Kasama general hospital in Northern province , Chipata general hospital in Eastern province, Livingstone general hospital in Southern province and Lewanika general hospital in Western province. 

Evey blood unit you donate will save three children in need of blood replacement in hospital;

Pledge to become a hero or shero for the future generation.

Because of blood donors, Children like Jacob are able to lead a normal life

On the 14th of June 2012, the world will be celebrating world blood donor day to acknowledge the noble efforts that blood donors make throughout the world, by the gift of life that they continue to give through blood donation. Zambia joins the world in commemorating and celebrating the Hero in every blood donor, on this memorable day and say thank you to all our Zambian Heroes and Sheroes who continue to donate blood and make a difference in saving lives in hospitals countrywide
